Sunday Matches

Cowboy Matches shot on the 1st Sunday of every month.

1st Sunday Match – January 4th, 2015

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

Well, the bad news is that it did not warm up as fast or as high as predicted and we had to make do with a little cool in the morning and highs in the sixties. The good news is that we had 5 minutes of sprinkles on stage four and the rest of the day zero rain with a little sun peaking out.

Congratulations to Cody Maverick as the Top Overall Shooter and congratulations to Flatboat Bob, Sassy Shooting Sours and Windhorse Rider as our Clean All Day Shooters.

The scores are attached in both MS Excel and PDF formats.

1st Sunday Match – December 7th, 2014

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

I have typed in the stages that we shot this past Sunday in our “Luck of the Draw” match, along with a brief write up of how we shot the match.

This document is mostly correct, I saved the papers we drew for each stage but the shooting orders and starting lines were from memory, so I may have missed something there.

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

The Cavalier Cowboys held their first “Luck of the Draw” match today at the Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club. The idea was each shooter wrote out a rifle, pistol and shotgun sequence and then we had a drawing at the beginning of each stage to determine what the shooting sequences were for that stage. This approach seemed to be well revived and something we will definitely do again. I will be sending out the actual stages we show but wanted to get the scores out first and will send the stages when I have time to get them typed in.

Congratulations to Cody Maverick as our Top Overall Shooter. There were no Clean Shooters.

The scores are attached in both PDF and MS Excel formats.

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

The Cavalier Cowboys will be shooting their monthly 1st Sunday match, this Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at the Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club.  The gate will be open from 8:00 till 9:30, registration will run from 8:30 till 9:30, mandatory safety meeting at 9:45 and the match itself will begin at 10:00.  The costs is $15.00 for non members, $25.00 for couples, $10.00 for members of CR&PC and as always shooters 18 and under shoot for free. Additional details are available on our web site at: www.cavaliercowboys.org

As we announced last month, for our December match we are trying something new, we are calling it a “Luck of the Draw” match. Here is the idea: We will have 5 rifle targets, 5 pistol targets and 6 shotgun targets setup on the range. There will be 3 buckets, labeled Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun. Before the match we will invite each cowboy to write a shooting sequence on an index card for each of the three buckets. The cowboy can choose the number of targets from 1 to the max for each type and then the shooting sequence for those targets. For example, for the rifle bucket a shooter might write; “3 Targets, Double Tap Nevada Sweep, Starting on the Left, for example: R1, R1, R2, R2, R3, R3, R2, R2, R1, R1”. Each cowboy present can write a sequence for each the rifle, pistol and shotgun. Then at the start of each stage, we will draw one card from each of the three buckets, a rifle card, a pistol card and a shotgun card, and that will be the stage directions for that stage. We will also be rotating the shooting order and movement direction between stages, all of that will be explained at the match. But you should be thinking about what your favorite shooting sequences are, so you will be ready to fill out the cards.

The hourly weather forecast for Sunday shows a 40% chance of rain and temperatures in the mid forties for our match window, not an ideal weather forecast but we can make that work by taking advantage of our covered shooting areas, putting up tents and lighting the burn barrel. If the forecast for Sunday turns for the worst we will send out an update on Friday afternoon but NO NEWS is GOOD NEWS and if you don’t hear from us, the match is a GO.

Safe Travels,

Striker

For our December match, we will not be sending out any stages ahead of time, Instead we will be doing something a little different. We will have three buckets setup before the match, a rifle bucket, a pistol bucket and a shotgun bucket. For each bucket, we will ask every shooter present, to write a rifle sequence on a index card, using between 1 and 5 targets, any sequence they choose and place that index card in the bucket, doing the same for shotgun and pistol. For each stage, we will draw 1 index card from each bucket, rifle, pistol, shotgun and then that will be the stage directions we shoot for that stage. Repeating the process for each of the stages. So, be thinking about what your favorite sequences are and we will try them out.

Everyone is invited to join us after the match for our “4th of July – Cowboy Potluck Cookout”!!!!!  You do not have to shoot the match to attend the cookout and you do not have to stay for the cookout to shoot the match, but we would love to have everyone join us if possible, even for a few minutes. We have asked for who was coming during the last month in order to plan for the event, but everyone is welcome regardless of if you have responded or not.

The Cavalier Cowboys will be supplying the hot dogs, hamburgers and all the fixings. We ask that everyone who is coming to the cookout bring something, a side dish, a desert, anything to contribute to the “Potluck”.  We have a list of the web site of what people have already said they were bringing, but that is just a guide, bring what you want.

I suggest everyone coming bring a folding chair to sit on and their favorite cold beverage. We will have some picnic tables available for folks to use but bringing your own chair assures you of a place to sit. We will also have some of our favorite cold beverages to share with everyone but bringing your own assures you have what you like.

For anyone coming to the cookout after the match has started, the plan is to have the gate open all day but please take my cell phone number with you (listed below) or make arrangements with another CR&PC member as a backup, in case the gate gets closed without our knowledge.

If there are any questions, please let us know, otherwise I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

The Cavalier Cowboys would like to thank all the cowboys and cowgirls who joined us today for our match, it was a great day of shooting with our pards.

You may have noticed that when the stages were sent out on Tuesday before the match, they did not contain a story line nor starting lines, well that was because we had something special planned and wanted to make it a surprise. Today is Sassy Shooting Sours 60th birthday and her first time shooting in the senior category. We had the reading of a special story line, written in her honor, presented her with a birthday cake, we had the bays decorated for the occasion and sang her Happy Birthday. For those of you who were not able to make the match today, the stages are attached, complete with the story line we used today at the match.

Sassy Birthday Cake 1

Sassy asked that I pass along this message from her: “THANK YOU to everyone, especially the “Cavalier Cowboys” for making today very special.  Think age caught up to me today!  Sassy”.

The scores from today are attached in both PDF and MS Excel formats. Congratulations to Virginia Rifleman and Prairie City Slim as our two Clean All Day Shooters. Congratulations to Cody Maverick as our Top Overall Shooter.
