The Cavalier Cowboys are a Cowboy Action Shooting Club based near Montpelier, Virginia. We are associated with the Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club which is where we hold our matches. We shoot on the 1st Sunday and 2nd Wednesday of every month, with some exceptions. The Cavalier Cowboys are a SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) Affiliated Club, we are governed by and operate our matches under all SASS Rules.

You DO NOT have to be a member of either Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club or SASS to shoot with us, everyone is welcome to join us as our guests.

NEW Shooters are Welcome and Encouraged!!  If you have ever wondered how much fun it is too dress up like a cowboy and shoot 1800 era pistols, rifles and shotguns at steel targets then COME ON OUT and find out!! New Shooters need to have observed a full match (at Cavalier or elsewhere) before shooting their first match.

2nd Wednesday Match – April 10th 2024

Hello all you Cowpokes out there,

Well we managed to shovel out a path to the firing line through the knee snow today so we could sling some lead. Seven of us hitched up our dog sleds and made the venture. Despite the blizzard conditions, Gentleman George overcame the obstacles and was our lone Clean All Day shooter. Results attached.

Another Cavalier match is now in the history books. Enshrined forever are the Clean All Day shooters, Kuba Kid, Range Hazzard , Steady Dutchman and myself. Also top overall was Mr.Tree Doc Red. Don’t want to leave out that we  had a new first ever match cowboy sling some lead with us today, A big welcome to Machinegun Hardy. Big ten gallon hat tip for everyone that helped tear down and hope to see you again. Well the beans are burning and I have to flip the steak so it’s time to go.

2nd Wednesday Match – March 13, 2024

Hello cow people

Sorry for the late send out but I just got home from my truck service after the shoot. 
It may have been the 13th but what a lovely weather day to shoot a match. It was so lovely that Mr. Butch Montana stepped up to the plate and shot his first ever match. Hopefully the first of many more. I guess the 13th’s  ugly head showed itself anyway because not one person shot clean. Must of been from all the short starting lines. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Results linked below.

Results – Overall Winners by Time 3/13/2024

Pro Tip:  Survey your shooting positions for possible prop hazards and areas for safe and efficient movement.  Give yourself the space you need to operate without interference from a prop!  You may just save yourself from a safety issue.  A few moments spent surveying the stage before the buzzer goes off can help you navigate the stage successfully.

Check out this video of Bucksaw Bob and Bingo Montana shooting stage 1, sync’d at the starting beep!  Only 0.49 seconds difference in total time between the two! Oh, and did I mention smoke?

Hello Cowfolkes

 Could have used a little more sun earlier in the day but what a  beautiful day in the neighborhood. Would like to thank Jeffrey, Katie,and their sons, Luke and Will for coming by and checking things out. We also had not one,not two but three new shooters shooting their first ever cowboy match with us today, Old Jeb Scrat, Bella Vaquero and Havanna Hank. Hope it is the first of many more to come. You would think with 20 shooters we could have mustered up more than one clean all day shooter out of the bunch. That one CAD shooter was that Major BS fella. I want to thank everyone for spending their time with us today and for all the work everyone helped with. Results are attached.  Thanks to Bucksaw Bob for grilling up hotdogs after the match.  That was one hungry posse!
 
Note: The Cavalier second Wednesday of the month match resumes again this month on March 13. First shot down range at 11:00 am. Play hookie and come on out.

1st Sunday Match – February 4th 2024

Hello all

It might have started a little cold for the first three stages but our heaters and our warm hearts took care of that. The last three stages were quite comfortable for a February day. Fourteen shooters showed up today with several onlookers who also came by and hung around. Mr. Walker Colt and Mr. Tree Doc Red were our only CAD shooters and they also came in first and second overall. Fun stages and fun people who help out. What’s not to love. Results attached.

1st Sunday Match – January 7th 2024 – Happy New Year!

Howdy everyone out there in Cowboy land.

The turn out today was more reminiscent of a Wednesday match but the few, the brave, and the lucky ones who showed up thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Sun came out and temps were several degrees warmer than forecast. The heaters were also a hit. We only had one CAD shooter raise his ugly head and that was me. Ripsaw kicked all our asses even with a miss. A big thanks for all the help. Don’t forget, next Saturday the Pungo Posse picks up their match schedule once again.

1st Sunday Match – December 3rd 2023

Hello everyone out there in this big old Cowboy shooten world. The Cavalier boys pulled off their final 2023 match today despite the chance of rain. Weather people got it right for a change. Stopped raining about 7:30 so by 10:00 we were good to go. Eighteen Cowpokes attended and we had a 33% Clean All Day with Bucksaw Bob, Kuba Kid, Potter County Kid, Red Cavanaugh, Walker Colt and myself pulling it off. We had a pig shoot for a bonus plus if you hit it, your name was entered into a drawing for a Cabela’s gift card. Mr. Kuba Kid was the lucky winner. A gentleman from Tennessee, Mr. Bona Fide, hung around Richmond long enough to shoot the match with us today. Was great having you and please try to do it again sometime. The Cavalier crew finished one today and will be shooting again this Wednesday Nov. 8th. Gates open at 9:30 with first shot down range at 11:00.
